Markets

Four places these components earn their mass.

The common thread is a system where size, weight and power are already spoken for, and where a sensing component has to justify every gram and every milliamp it takes.

Defense & UAV

  • Altimeter < 25 g
  • LiDAR < 250 g
  • Rangefinder < 120 g

On an unmanned platform the sensing budget is decided before the sensor is chosen. A 25-gram altimeter and a 250-gram LiDAR are not marketing numbers; they are what determines whether the capability flies at all.

There is a second reason this market is in front of us. Programs building autonomous platforms are actively working to reduce dependence on Chinese-origin optoelectronic components. Our manufacturing partners produce in Taoyuan, Taiwan — an allied, non-PRC source with an established commercial export history to U.S. and European customers.

  • Terrain following
  • Obstacle detection
  • Precision landing
  • Allied sourcing

SATCOM & radar

  • AESA T/R Ku-band, 32 ch
  • Power amplifier X-band, 200 W
  • PA / LNA Ku & Ka-band

Flat-panel terminal and phased-array production runs into the same two problems: RF front-end lead times, and finding a second source that is not in an exposed jurisdiction. The T/R modules, power amplifiers and PA/LNA we supply sit in exactly that gap.

Power amplifiers in particular have been called out by integrators as a persistent long-lead category.

  • Phased array
  • LEO terminals
  • Second sourcing

Commercial & industrial

  • Rangefinder 30–10,000 m
  • Wavelength 1.5 µm
  • Mass < 120 g

Surveying, infrastructure inspection, mining and long-range industrial measurement, where ten kilometres of range in a hand-portable or drone-mounted package is the whole product requirement.

These programmes tend to run at volumes that reward a manufacturer certified to an automotive quality standard rather than a low-volume specialist.

  • Surveying
  • Inspection
  • Industrial measurement

Robotics & sensing

  • IR diodes 808–940 nm
  • Packaging Hermetic TO-CAN
  • Supply level Die or device

For teams building their own optical assemblies, the useful thing is not a finished module — it is a reliable emitter at the right wavelength, in a package that survives the environment, from a source that will still be there in three years.

We can supply at whichever level fits: bare die, packaged device, or finished module.

  • Proximity sensing
  • Ranging
  • Detection
  • Component supply

Not on this list?

The question we can answer fastest is a specific one.

If your application is not one of the four above, the useful thing to send is the constraint rather than the category: what you are measuring, over what distance, inside what mass and power budget, in what environment.

If you have a sensing or ranging problem and a set of constraints, that is enough to start. Send the requirement and we will come back with what is possible, what is not, and what it would take.
